The scanner settings screen is used to control the behavior of each scanner. It also allows you to decide where pictures from each scanner will be saved and named. To access the scanner settings, click on the scanner and press the "Properties.." button (or right-click on the scanner and choose "Properties..".
Save as: This is used to control what format the pictures will be saved as (JPEG, Bitmap or TIFF). FotoTime recommends the use of JPEG for an optimal balance between disk space and picture quality.
Compression Level: If you choose JPEG as the File Format, then you can specify the amount of compression to use. For better picture quality, choose a higher value. For smaller picture files, choose a lower value. In general, a value between 75-90 provides good results.
DPI: This will set the default DPI for the scanner to use when scanning. The higher the value, the larger the image file will be and the more detail you will get while scanning. Some scanners can not use this value and will scan at their default value regardless of what you set it to.
Enable multiple-transfers: If checked, FotoAlbum will attempt to retrieve as many pictures as your scanner sends. This is useful for cameras or other Twain devices that have the ability to send more than one image at a time. However, this option may have problems with certain scanners and you may need to disable it.
Use alternate multi-image mode (Epson): Certain scanners (such as most Epson models) behave a little different with regard to sending multiple images at once. If the scanner you are setting up is an Epson (or FotoAlbum does not recognize that multiple images are available), then you might try checking this option.
Save Filename: This option controls how the files will be named when retrieved from the scanner. Since most scanners do not provide names, this option is important to control how FotoAlbum will name your files. Refer to folder and filename formatting codes to learn more about what is available in this field.
Picture sub-folder: This option controls where files are copied when retrieved from cameras. It is always a sub-folder of your picture folder. If you leave this field blank, it will copy pictures directly into your picture folder. Refer to folder and filename formatting codes to learn more about what is available in this field.
Filename Format: This controls how files are named when they are retrieved from the camera. Refer to folder and filename formatting codes to learn more about what is available in this field.
